Wrigley

Karina has a cousin that has the cutest little boy named Wrigley.   We always get a good laugh when Karina sings "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" because she has her own version. It goes as follows:
Rudoloph, with your nose so bright, won't you guide my sleigh tonight?
Then how the reindeer loved him
as they shouted out Wrigley

Scented candles

I love apple cinnamon scented candles at Christmas time but I have  decided to only burn them when Karina is not home.  The other day I went into the kitchen and my candle was not where I had left it burning and there was a funny smell.  I found the candle (which Karina admitted to moving) on the window sill sitting just below the blind which was down.  There was a big black burned mark on the bottom slat and up about 4 more.   She said it looked better in the window.

Bracelets, necklaces, more bracelets, and more necklaces

Last week Karina went on a beading binge.  She spent all of her time making bracelets and necklaces.  She can't tie the ends and it would frustrate her as she would put some beads on one end and then some beads would fall off the other end.  She called out to me one day and said, "Linda, can I borrow your hands?"  She used up every one of her beads and I counted 40 bracelets and necklaces.  Guess where she put them?  In the church purse, of course.

The Frog

To celebrate Dan's birthday we had some friends over for dinner.  Karina was sitting next to Dan as he opened his presents.  As he opened one Karina burst into spontaneous laughter.  It was the above frog and she laughed and laughed and couldn't stop and soon had the whole room laughing.  My friend that was there shared the term "joy rising" with me and it fits that moment. We now  tease her about her new boyfriend.

TOAST

For dinner on Thursday evening Karina wanted one of her favorite foods; Chicken Pot Pie.  I fixed her a plate of food and then went into the living room to play the piano.  I had only played a few pages of music when I looked up and saw smoke billowing out of the kitchen.  I ran in and could see that it was coming from the toaster.  There were 4 pieces of burningf toast in the toaster.  Karina was still sitting at the bar eating her food in the midst of all the smoke.  She simply said, "I am making toast."
It has been 3 days since the toast incident and our house still smells like burnt toast.  I hope we don't have permanent smoke damage.

Keep the Change

Karina and I went to the Dollar store so that Karina could buy two of her favorite things in the world.  A coloring book and some glue.  We got in line to pay and I gave Karina a ten dollar bill to pay for her items.  The grand total was $2.19.  Karina handed the cashier the ten dollar bill and said, "keep the change". The cashier seemed very surprised but also very grateful.  What could I say?

She is 30 today

Today is Karina's 30th birthday.  For some reason the number 30 is hard for her to remember.  When asked how old she is today by various people I have heard her say 2 years old, 7 years old, and 7 1/2 years old.  (I always have to whisper in her ear how old she is.)  She told us that she wanted a new baby doll so that is what we gave her.  Her name is Maggie and she loves her. We celebrated her birthday a little different this year.  Instead of having a party (which she doesn't usually like), we took cupcakes around to some of her favorite people and she had a great time.

Listening to the Radio

Dan needed to go to the ranch to winterize the cabins and Karina was going to go with him.  While Dan was gathering his tools and getting things ready to leave I realized that I hadn't seen Karina for a little while.  I looked all through the house and she was not there.  I went outside and ran around and could not see her anywhere.  Just as I was starting to panic I thought to look in our car and there she was.  She had taken the car keys from the key hanger by the front door, put them in the ignition and turned it on enough for the radio to come on.  (Thank goodness she didn't turn the key all the way).  She was listening to her favorite radio station 102.1 the "relaxation station".  She looked at me, rolled her eyes  and said "I'm just lissning to the radio, OK".  Needless to say, the keys are going to have a new secret home.

Sunday, October 2, 2011

In memory of Hailey (Demaree and Max's angel in heaven) we went to one of our favorite places near Payson and launched some balloons.  It is hard to believe that it has been 7 years.  Demaree was talking to the kids about Hailey and Karina said "Hailey lives in heaven with Jesus in his castle".
As we were watching conference this weekend Karina said, "I like gentle conference".

He's Making a List

We have a large picture in our living room with Jesus Christ in the center holding a copy of the constitution in front of him and many of the United States founders and heroes and modern people around him.  Karina stopped in front of it this morning and looked and looked at it and then came and told me that Jesus is on the picture.  I asked her what he was doing in the picture (I am always curious to see how her brain thinks) and she answered "He's making a list, checking it twice.  Gonna find out who's naughty and nice." (I have to admit that the constitution does look like a long list.)
By the way, I (Linda) grew that dahlia.

The Church Purse

Karina has a purse that she always takes to church and we call it the "church purse".  It is quite big and can hold a whole lot of stuff.  Since she is kind of a hoarder you never know for sure what is in that purse and I don't like to look in it too often.  Her scriptures are always in there (they are the large ones) old copies of the Friend, coloring books (most of them have been totally colored in but she will not take them out), crayons, markers, construction paper, etc. etc.  The church purse has become quite heavy and I don't know how she carries it around on Sundays without wearing her arms out.  Several weeks ago we were sitting in church and I kept smelling something.  A sickly sweet, rotten smell.  There wasn't anyone sitting very close to us so I knew the smell had to be coming from us.  I kept sniffing around trying to figure where the smell was coming from and it finally hit me that it was coming from the church purse. With great trepidation I opened the purse and got an overwhelming whiff.  I had to dig around a little but I found the culprits.  5 apples that had been in there for weeks.  It looks like I have a new Sunday duty - check the church purse before we go.

Sspeaking of purses and hoarding:
We have had a real problem around our house with pens disappearing.  We have always had a pen holder in the kitchen and one by the computer and you could always count on finding a pen when you needed one.  Dan and I love the nice Pilot pens and buy them in bulk at
Costco. They started disappearing and soon there was never a pen when we neded one.  We would buy more pens (they are not cheap) and they would disappear quicker and quicker.  One day I was looking in one of her purses to see if she had some lip gloss (she carries 2 purses when she goes places.  One has her money in it and the other she puts odds and ends in).  I was shocked when I saw lots of Pilot pens in her purse.  I took them out and counted 37.  Needless to say, Dan and I now hide pens.  I have even become a hoarder of pens in my purse.

Antique Store

On Friday, Karina and I went to Pine for a little outing and found a a great antique store.  As we went in I told her that we aren't supposed to touch anything in the store.  She proceeded to tell several people that had picked up items and were looking at them that they were not supposed to touch anything.  Later, I found something interesting and picked it up to take a closer look and Karina came up close to me and whispered in my ear "you're not supposed to touch anything".

Wednesday night Karina said the Family Prayer and after blessing all of her make believe friends and none of her own family she ended the prayer by saying, "See you later".

Tuesday afternoon we decided to go to the Flake ranch and pick some produce from our garden.  Karina had decided to take a nap before we left so we had to wake her up and she was not happy.  She had put some pajamas on (3 pairs of pants over each other which made her bum look even bigger than it is) to take her nap and was being very obstinate  about  having to change her clothes so we could go.  I decided that this was one of those pick your battles moments.  Since we were just going to the ranch no one would see her and I would not be embarassed I told her she could wear them.  We stayed longer than planned  and needed something to eat so we stopped at the Subway in Heber.  The plan was that I would go in and order and we would eat on the way home.  She jumped out of the truck before we could stop her and she went in.  It was than that I realized that her outer pj pants had hearts all over them and a big hershey kiss that said "Kiss Me".  The only problem was that she had her pants on backwards and the Kiss me was right on her bum.
